El Perihuete

So my friend and I went to one of my favorite spots...El Perihuete in Paramount California, a straight up Sinaloa-style seafood joint.

I started off with a Tostada de Ceviche de Camaron. The ceviche was fresh and well-prepared, but they were a bit stingy with the shrimp.

Next up was a Taco al Uy Yu Yui...a shrimp taco with the shrimp smothered in a rich, creamy and spicy sauce, topped with lettuce, Mexican cream, and onions...this is one of their trademark dishes, and it is EXCELLENT!

For the main dish I had a Marlin Quesadilla. This dish truly surprised me! The marlin didn't even taste like fish, it actually reminded me of a well prepared machaca. The quesadilla was HUGE! A definite thumbs-up on this one.

My friend had the Caldo de Camaron (shrimp soup). They made up for their earlier stinginess on the shrimp, this caldo was PACKED with shrimp. Very well put together and quite delicious.

I topped it off with an authentic, imported Mexican soda: Toni-Col. A smooth vanilla soda that I had not had for a couple of decades. Cold and sweet, it was the perfect end to a superb meal.

The seating is good, with many tables for minimal waiting time, but the service that night was lacking. Our waitress must have just gotten imported in by on of the local "traficantes", because she has a lot to learn about her trade.

Overall though, it is a definite place to take ANYBODY, and my companion and I truly enjoyed the meal.

Rating:♦♦♦♦ (4 out of 5 diamonds, better waitress and they get the full 5)

El Perihuete

So my friend and I went to one of my favorite places the other day, El Perihuete. This is a straight up Sinaloa-style Mexican seafood joint!

It is located in the city of Paramount, on Paramount Blvd.

They start you off with a shrimp broth called a "Taliban", this broth is off the hook, perfect for you all that drink to kill that hang-over the next day.

I went right into it, ordering a Taco al Uy Yu Yiu...this is a Perihuete trademark, a shrimp taco with the shrimp smotheres in a creamy and spicy sauce, topped with lettuce, mexican cream and freshly dilled onions. SUPERB! Next was a tostada de ceviche de camaron. They were a bit stingy with the shrimp, but it was fresh, and well prepared.

For the main course I had a Marlin Quesadilla. This dish was excellent...no, actually it was addicting! It completely surprised me with its full, delicious flavor. The Marlin tasted nothing like fish and actually reminded me more of a well cooked machaca.
My friend had a caldo de camoaron (shrimp soup), and it was very well prepared. They made up for their earlier stinginess on the shrimp ceviche...this caldo was FULL of shrimp! It was the perfect caldo for those that are shrimp fanatics.

Top Ten Reasons...

My Top 10 Reasons I'm Glad I'm Not Incarcerated Anymore:

10. My wardrobe consists of more than fancy blue pajamas these days.
9. I don't have to give anybody the "county smile" anymore.
8. I don't have to live in a closet with a toilet in it anymore.
7. I don't have to hide contraband in the "trunk" anymore.
6. I no longer have to wash my clothes in the toilet.
5. Today, a fancy gourmet meal does not consist of noodles, roast beef and dried beans.
4. My mailman doesn't wear a green uniform and a badge anymore, and he doesn't have the right to do a nude body cavity search on me.
3. I don't ever have to watch another episode of Days Of Our Lives, Soul Train, Caliente, or Survivor.
2. The highlight of my day is no longer watching Mrs. Orozco, the Correctional Counselor walk across the yard .

and the Number One reason I'm glad I am no longer incarcerated:

1. When I am sad and lonely, I no longer have to seek comfort from a guy named "Flako" (unless I want to!).

Thaddy turns politician and other late developments...

Gavin Newsom Rally

Listen, I am no politician, and I really don't care for the whole political game, but it is a very necessary evil that we have to deal with, so when Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco, who is currently running for lieutenant governor of California, asked Homeboy Industries to support him, the bosses, Hector Verdugo and Aswad Humphries sent some of my solar boys out to support.  Here are som flicks from that rally...

Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, surrounded by Newsom supporters.  Why is Thaddeus Skiles smiling so much? (He is in the royal blue Homeboy shirt)  I think he began to develop a special fondness for the Mayor at this point.

Thaddeus begins to get closer and closer to the Mayor...

Ahhh, finally, the moment Thaddy had been waiting for...

 The Cursed Spot?

So you guys remember the disappearance of Elias Vaden?  He started the class, came one day and then become nothing but a memory in our program...
Elias Vaden

Elias was replaced with Damien Ramirez.  Well, Damien lasted about two weeks, but due to lack of attendance, we had to terminate him from the program...buh-bye Damien!  It happens...but could that be a sign of a curse on that last and final spot during this cycle of our program?  Halloween is coming up, one guys name is straight out of the bible, and the other one is named after the Anti-Christ in the movie "The Omen"...sinister forces at work?  You be the judge!

Seafood & Tacos Luis

So I'm gonna start reviewing eateries around the Southern California area...I eat out a lot so I might as well share the good and bad with you folks.

On Thursday I ate at Tacos Luis located in Bellflower, on Lakewood Blvd. and Flower St.

The spot is open late...at least 'til midnight, so that's good for all you nightowls out there. There is also a 7-11 conveniently located in the same location, so you can pick up whatever you gotta pick up there.

I had tacos de carnitas...

The meat was hot and tasted fresh...good overall flavor. As you can see, I helped myself to some of their green guacamole salsa from their salsa and vegetable bar, it was excellent.

My friend had a tostada de ceviche...

They actually give you enough for two BIG tostadas for $3.75...The ceviche was GOOD! I couldn't help myself and stole some from my friend! But my friend also agreed that it was some good ceviche.

We topped off our late night meal with an horchata and an agua de piƱa, both were done from mixes, but still good.

The one thing I didn't like was the seating. they only have one actual table. Other than that, you have to sit on tall chairs and eat on some sort of counter.

Overall, I'm going to give Tacos Luis 3 1/2 diamonds ♦♦♦1/2. Good spot to grab a quick late night bite, but definitely not the place you want to go if you're trying to impress the ladies.
